The Pact - Discussion Question # 5

Discuss the differences between the characters home life and school lives. For example, how did moving to the old neighborhood affect George? Rameck? What were some of the consequences and how does perseverance pay off/not pay off?

There is definetly a noticeable difference for the boys between their lives at school and at home. George especially, has a very hard time adapting to the fact that he has to move home to go to dental school. At first it was very convenient but then with all the distraction like neighbors arguing outside outside it was hard for him to concentrate on his school work. Living at school they were all surrounded by children with the same hopes and dreams as them which also motivated them to move further. Some of the consequences they went through for example like Rameck was the racial profiling he went through that almost cost him his whole career. Luckily God was on his side at the time and the judge got rid of the trial. There perserverance definetly paid off at the end because they all were doing great in there school work and were getting very good grades. In the end they were all accepted to their medical schools and even though they were struggling financially they still motivated to succeed in there futures.

The three boys all had different home and school life situations. George, for example had a difficult time adjusting from his transition from living at school to living back at home. At school he was more focused on his school work and didnt have any distractions. When George moved back at home he was faced with an unanticipated dilemma; his parents bought a house in Piscataway so that meant that he had to look for an apartment on his own. He eventually got one but he started housing all of his friends in his house and eventually it became hard for him to study because everyday seemed like a "boys club" in his apartment. He soon learned how to tune the guys out but that still wasnt a good way to study. Rameck too had problems like when he almost lost his whole school career when he was was followed by "white cops" for no reason due to racial profiling. The guys all overcame their problems and perseverance definately payed off because without that the men wouldnt have became the successful doctors they are today.

The three characters in this novel all differ in one way or form. They all went through downfalls that almost preventing them from keeping their pact in tact. Rameck got into the stickiest situations while attending school. He got caught stealing, distracted by love, and he almost became a convict. For some reason the judge viewed his case and dismissed the trail. While all of this was going George left the college campus resident halls for his room back home in Newark. He eventually lost focus in his assignments with noisy neighbors and in home distractions. Later, he had to rent out his own apartment which became a clubhouse for his buddies. Perseverance pays off because it shows that if you really want something adversity comes knocking. If you can get through it that means you are willing to do anything to accomplish your goal. George and Rameck persevered through their hardships and it paid off in the end when they were challenged by their negative upbringing and turning it into a positive motivation. With that they became successful medical doctors.

The differences that are shown from home lives to there school lives is by far a very noticeable thing. They had lots of troubles when they were going from living at school to making the transfer to living back at home. George had the problem of his parents buying a house in Piscataway by them doing this he then had to be on his on and find his own place. It was easier for him to get all his stuff done that he had to do. When he finally did find a place this was not good for him at all. All it was, was a place for him and his friends to hang out an work became harder and harder to do. Remeck had problems with the cops. This was something that could have ended him as well. Since they are very strong boys they overcame all of this and they are better people today and very successful as well.

The three guys all face differences when it comes to their school and home lives. At school they can be themseleves without having to impress anyone or get thrown off track by making stupid decisions. When the boys return home they are faced with more disadvantages with staying focused.
Due to their perserverance the boys learned to pull through and kept their heads high away from difficulties that would damage their future careers. Even though they have to go home and face these problems the guys understand and realize what is more inmportant and they stay focused.

The difference between their home lives and their school lives is simple. In school it was easier to concentrate and then they were pushed harder becuase the people they were surrounded by. In school they had different ways to get hep from diffrent tutors or other people if they didnt understand something. When george was in his old neighborhood it affected him because he was distracted by many things like his noisy neighbors. Rameck at the time was going through his difficulties. He was lucky to get through the trial that could have changed his life. Their perservance paid off alot because they became so very succesful in their profession.

The difference between the boys life at school and at home is very obvious. At schools the boys are more comfortable and dedicated. They like their setting and they can get along with the people around them because everyone is trying to achieve the same thing. George had a tough time dealing with his work at home because of the distractions he was faced with by neighbors and him having to have some people stay at his apartment. Even though the boys are not as comfortable at home, they are still earning good grades and are achieving the goals they have set for themselves and their future still looks bright.

There are noticable differences when some of the boys lived at home and when they went away. George was living at home when he was attending college. He lived a few min away from the college, so it wasnt bad for him. however soon his mother got engaged to his stepfather. they decided to move to piscataway. Now george was left to pay for the apartemtn alone along with paying tutition. At first the other tenants tried to resist george and his mom from giving him the apartment, yet George knew the president of the board and he was able to persuade the board to let him live there. The president asked george months later if he would switch to a one bedroom apartment. George agreed but didnt realize the neighborhood he was getting in. there was alot of difficulty for him to study in this neighborhood. there were many drug dealers and drunks and this neighborhood. Additiionally, all he would hear at night was the sounds of barking dogs.

one of the issues Rameck felt while away was rascism. While driving down the road in his area a few cops saw him and his friends. they pulled himover handcuffed him and put him in a cell for the night. The cop had no reason to pull him over. They claimed that he didnt pull over right away and that he had a deadly weapon on him. The eadly weapon was actually a fishing knife that rameck left in his car after a fishing trip. The cops were nasty and didnt stop cussing at him. they threw him in jail without een hearingn hisside of the story. Ramecks story got even worse when his lawyer didnt show up to any of the dates he had a trial for. The judge advised rameck to get a new lawyer and sue his old one. Rameck turned to a family friend who got him a lawyer. Somehow god saved rameck and got him out of this whole mess.

These two issues accord when both boys where back home. Clearly this shows a differecne when they are away and when they are home. when home they are distracted with the law and with their bad neighborhoods. when away at college they are able to stay focused and dedicated to their school work.

There is definetley a noticiable difference between all of the 3 boys and their lives at school and in their homes. They all used to have dreams and didnt actaully think that they were going to happen. As soon as it all happened they were striving hard to do well and succeed. If the boys were stuck where they were growing up god even knows where they would of ended up or even still be alive. The boys didnt grow up in such a great neighborhood or even have that great of parents that were there for them all the time like we have. If they were still stuck where they grew up it probably woud have been bad. It is a great achievement for the 3 boys to succceed and end up where they are now. Now they can have goals and dreams and accomplish all of them. They can even get decent jobs and make money on their own for themselves once they are done and not have to wonder or worry how they will succeed and get by in the real world.
